Nachschlagewerk zu Personen und Sachbegriffen der Musik. Musiklexika oder -enzyklopädien gehen damit in ihrem Umfang über Musik-Wörterbücher, Konzertführer, Opernführer, Musik-Bibliographien und Diskographien hinaus. Als bedeutende Musiklexika gelten "Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart" (MGG), das "Riemann Musiklexikon" und das "New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians" ("New Grove").
