Die Verbindung aus schwarzem Rhythm & Blues und weißer Hillbilly- (bzw. Country-)musik wurde 1954/55 großteils in Memphis von Musikern wie Bill Haley, Everly Brothers, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis und Elvis Presley geschaffen. Kurze Zeit später ging der Rockabilly in den Rock’n’Roll über.
