Mit 119.000 Einwohnern (Stand 2011) ist Cork nach Dublin die zweitgrößte Stadt Irlands. Seit 1978 findet jährlich Ende Oktober das Cork Jazz Festival statt. Cork war 2005 Europäische Kulturhauptstadt.
