Der Stadtteil im New Yorker Bezirk Manhattan besitzt eine lange Tradition als Künstlerviertel. Das "Cherry Lane Theater" war eines der ersten Off Broadway Theater. Mit dem "Village Vanguard", dem "Café Society" und dem "Blue Note Club" besitzt der Stadtteil drei renommierte Jazzclubs. Anfang der 1960er Jahre war Greenwich Village Ausgangspunkt des Folk-Revivals um Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton u.a.
