Soft Machine aus: WORLDS OF MUSIC
Die britische Art Rock-Gruppe formierte sich 1966 in Canterbury und benannte sich nach einem Roman von William S. Burroughs. Das Debütalbum "The Soft Machine" erschien 1968. Die Gründungsbesetzung bestand aus Daevid Allen (Gitarre), Kevin Ayers (E-Bass), Robert Wyatt (Schlagzeug, Gesang) sowie Mike Ratledge (Keyboards). Soft Machine experimentierte mit Jazz- und Avantgardeelementen und trat u.a. mit Miles Davis bei den Donaueschinger Musiktagen auf. Die Band trennte sich 1981.
